Simplexity

about

Simplexity is a made up word combining the words simple and complex. At first glance, a lot of things in life seem simple and repetitive, but if we really look deeper, we'll find things are a lot deeper and more beautifully complex than we first though.

To illustrate this in music, I took a very simple piano part and played it in once. I then looped this 4 bar piano part throughout the duration of the song. I then inserted several effect processors into the signal path and played their parameters in real time as if I were playing another instrument. A multi-tap delay processor called Ricochet, by AudioDamage, was the main effect that was used in this manner. All those wonderful little harp like syncopated sounds were created by treating Ricochet as an instrument.

Straying into territory occupied by bands like Moby, Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, and Radiohead, Soulflier blends glitchy electronica with organic folk sensibilities.
