Distant Thoughts

from Soulflier by Soulflier

/

about

This song was written sometime in 2009 - 2010, when I was suffering from a particular bad migraine. The doctors call them "Classic Migraine with Aura". Pain, visual color swirls, and sensitivity to light and sound, come with these migraines. It will also sometimes be accompanied by a euphoric sense of peace or calm.

In the midst of a migraine induced sleepless night, I made my way into the studio, dimmed the lights, turned my speakers down so low that I could barely hear in order to keep my head from throbbing, and composed and recorded this piece.

There is something in this piece for non migraine suffers. Our lives are messy. Life is a process. Good and bad things don't often happen sequentially, they overlap; and like this migraine mentioned above, we can experience extreme peace and joy in the midst of the messy throbbing mess of live.

Straying into territory occupied by bands like Moby, Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, and Radiohead, Soulflier blends glitchy electronica with organic folk sensibilities.
